Henley Beach Locality Guide

The first white settlers found a land in 1836, which quite unlike the land they had left, was unaltered, unadapted by the hand of man. For thousands of years, the Kaurna had lived there, by hunting and fishing in harmony with the land as it was. Here settlement was difficult, but possible, and strips were settled as isolated but valuable residential towns and holiday resorts.
Every year in Winter, floods covered the area. During the floods, communication with the beach settlement was very difficult, the flood problem was eventually solved by the Torrens Outlet Scheme. From then on, the town of Henley and Grange could develop into today's seaside city!
