Attractions

There are more than 100,000 hectares of State Forests in the area, including the world heritage Werrikimbe National Park, the Upper Macleay Gorges and the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. They can all be explored using Kempsey as a base.

Kempsey is close to the coastal resorts of South West Rocks, Hat Head and Crescent Head as well as the western ranges.

The Kempsey Cultural Centre complex was designed by award-winning architect Glenn Murcutt.

 

Facilities

Most items can be purchased in town, as you'd expect from a centre this size.

The larger shopping centres are further afield but still within easy driving distance, at Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.

Kempsey has a number of restaurants often located in the town's pubs, clubs and motels.

Transport

Regular air, rail and coach services are available to and from the town.

Local buses run limited services to the villages in the Kempsey Shire.

The trip to Sydney by XPT train takes just a shade over seven hours.
