Selling your home this spring - make sure you boost your homes front door appeal

Making a Great First Impression

If you're selling your house and looking to make the biggest impact on people quickly, you can't go past a full revamp of the front facade. It's effectively the resume for your house - a succinct statement about what lies behind the walls that can quickly communicate the quality and appeal of your home.

One of the most crucial parts of this is getting your front door right. It's usually the first point of physical contact a potential buyer will have with your property, and while it seems like a small factor to consider, getting that front door just right can make an excellent first impression.

Colour Co-ordinate

This one totally depends on the colour scheme of the rest of the house, but picking the right colour to make the door stand out to visitors and people walking down the street is a must. Whether you decide on the classic 'little red door' statement, a sleek and contemporary black door or a traditional brown wooden door, ensure that the door matches what buyers will find around it and behind it.

Add the Little Things

The right small addition to your door can add a whole new feel to your entranceway. Touches like your house number painted on the door can be a bold identifier and add some quirk and personality, or you could try adding a door knocker. These definitely add a sense of regality to the entrance, and can be as simple or ornate as you like.

Make it a Smooth Entry

Remember: It doesn't matter how well-made your door is if it is a hassle to open. Get a professional to check the hinges and load-bearing capabilities, as well as the door handle itself. You don't want a potential buyer coming to your house and struggling to even get their foot in the door.

Make your door glide, and clear away anything that could impede the swing of the piece. You can do this, as well as fixing any door squeaking, by oiling and tightening hinges. If that doesn't work, you may need to contact a builder to realign the door frame.

Fixing up the front door isn't an arduous task. By using these tips you'll find the door looks supremely inviting, and it will be sure to draw comment from potential buyers. When the welcoming door looks excellent, they won't be able to wait to see the rest of your house!
