PEREGIAN BEACH PROFILE
The Village of Peregian Beach and the enclave of Marcus Beach on its northern side front the broad sweep of ocean and surf beach just south of Noosa Heads.  The pristine beach, surrounding National Parks and relaxed village atmosphere have long made it a prime holiday and weekend escape, while it has also developed as a premier residential location in Noosa Shire.

The name ‘Peregian’ is derived from the regional aboriginal dialect, meaning ‘Emu’.

The narrow coastal residential strip provides easy walking access to the beach, while acreage properties to the west offer spacious living only minutes from the surf.  The Peregian Springs golf course estate to the south west is the fastest selling development of its kind on the Sunshine Coast, and has now matured as an exclusive residential community.

LOCATION:
Peregian Beach is situated between Noosa Heads and Coolum Beach on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.  It is 113 km by road north of Brisbane, and 10 km south of Noosa, in Noosa Shire.

POPULATION & DEMOGRAPHY:
Peregian and Marcus Beach have a combined population of some 5,000 including adjoining acreage areas. Peregian Springs and the proposed Coolum Ridges development to the south-west will eventually add over 20,000 to the area’s population.

The population has changed in character since the initial settlements in the ‘60’s.  What was then a small collection of beach houses and even fewer residents, with a sprinkling of nomadic surfers, has become a casually chic and affluent community.  Remarkably, due to the constraints on development and care for the environment, it has retained its essential village atmosphere.  The demographic blend includes older residents, the newer ‘sea-change’ baby boomers, younger families who work in the dominant tourism and building industries, professional and self-employed working from home and holiday makers/weekenders.  The blend seems to work superbly.

Many who work in the larger and more tourism dominated areas of Noosa and Mooloolaba choose to live in Peregian for its relaxed, natural family lifestyle.

CLIMATE & LIFESTYLE:
While the magnificent beaches provide a focus for lifestyle pursuits, the area boasts superb National and environmental parks, a host of sporting venues and, only 10 minutes from Noosa, all that tourist mecca has to offer.

The recently upgraded Village streetscape provides the perfect, relaxed venue for its rapidly growing reputation among the café society.

The climate is sub-tropical with summer daytime temperatures averaging around 29°C and winter around 22°C.  Heavy rains and storms occur mostly in the more humid December - March months.

SHOPPING FACILITIES:
The village centre at Peregian Beach has a mini-market, butcher, bakery, fruiterer, chemist, hardware and a variety of speciality boutiques and professional services.  Excellent cafes and restaurants, a modern hotel, Surf and Bowls Clubs provide delightful dining. The beachside Peregian Markets draw large crowds every second Sunday.

Major shopping facilities are available at Noosa (10 minutes) and Maroochydore (20 minutes)

TRANSPORT SERVICES:
Maroochy Airport is less than 20 minutes by car, providing services to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane and regional services.  Rail services to Brisbane run from Nambour and Cooroy (30 minutes).  Buses link the coastal communities with regular services and run to both Maroochy and Brisbane airports and railheads.  Limousine, hire car, taxi and mini bus networks are well established.  Driving time Brisbane to Peregian via the Bruce Highway is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES:
State Primary and Secondary Schools are located at Coolum and Sunshine Beach, both close by.

The Peregian Beach Community School and Peregian Beach Kindergarten provide excellent primary and early-learning services.

St Andrews Anglican College is established at Peregian Springs.  St Thomas Moore Catholic College is in Sunshine Beach.  The Good Shepherd Lutheran College is at Noosaville.  A number of other, well established schools exist in the district to accommodate special and religious needs.

TAFE Colleges are at Nambour and Noosa.  The Sunshine Coast University is at Sippy Downs near Buderim.  U3A is active in Noosa.

Dance, music, gymnastic and many other tuition services are available.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS:
The area is well served by all major networks.  A complete range of broadband, television and pay-TV services is available.

HEALTH SERVICES:
The major hospital for the area is at Nambour.  Noosa Hospital offers both public and private services.  The area is well serviced with specialists and medical services (MRI, X-ray, Pathology, etc).  Peregian Beach has a doctors surgery operating 5 days per week and a Dentist 5 days and 1 night per week.

Several Private Hospitals are also available.

SPORTING FACILITIES:
Surf and Bowls Clubs are active at Peregian Beach.  The area is a golfer’s paradise with no fewer than 8 resort, private and public courses within 20 minutes drive.  A further 7 within 40 minutes.  The Noosa River and lakes, sweeping beachfronts and the Maroochy River offer boating, sailing and fishing enthusiasts huge scope.  Equestrian, Gymnastics, Tennis, Rugby, AFL, League, Soccer, Cricket, Softball, Netball and all major sports are well catered for in terms of clubs and facilities.  You can even indulge in rowing, outrigger canoe racing, wave-skiing, flying and parachuting.

The enviable climate allows you to enjoy your chosen activities all year round.

TOURISM:
The Sunshine Coast is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia.  Noosa in particular enjoys an international reputation.  Major resorts in the immediate area include The Hyatt Regency Coolum, Sheraton Noosa, and Novotel Twin Waters.  A host of smaller resorts, serviced and unserviced apartments, motels and bed and breakfast accommodation cater for overnight, weekend or longer term tourists.

Tourism and the hospitality industry are major employers on the Sunshine Coast and contribute significantly to its economy.  Noosa Shire, including the hinterland area, offers a huge range of restaurants and entertainment facilities.

SUMMARY:
A popular saying is ‘Settle in Noosa Shire and you will have no shortage of visitors’.  The reason is that in terms of climate, lifestyle, natural beauty and amenities, this area enjoys the best of all.  Peregian and Marcus Beach offer superb coastal living.
