Commercial opportunities attract foreign visitors

March 08, 2012

Australia could be considered a magnet for international visitors - its world-renowned attractions appeal to people from all walks of life.

Lately, the sunburnt country has also been attracting foreign business and commercial property investment.

Global recession conditions have turned Australia into a relatively economically secure place to be, as the strength of the dollar increases and the resource sector heats up.

In fact, figures from Tourism Research Australia reveal signs of increased foreign business activity.

In 2011, business travellers who were visiting the country increased by five per cent, visitors coming for employment by 14 per cent and holidaymakers decreased by four per cent, compared with 2010.

The lucrative mining sectors of Western Australia, Queensland and Northern Territory have been performing particularly well, attracting fly-in fly-out employees as well as commercial property investment.

The minister for tourism Martin Ferguson spoke about the opportunities this presents for Australia.

He said: "The successful businesses of the future will be those that can adapt to these trends, invest for growth and take full advantage of the business services on offer."
