NT offers public forums to help determine employment strategy

February 20, 2012

The Northern Territory is anticipating an influx of employment opportunity as the mining sector heats up and investment funds flow into the economy.

The new developments may also support residential property investment in the area as the wealth trickles in and more jobs are created.

Minister for business and employment Delia Lawrie reported last week (February 17) that the employment rate in NT is the second lowest in Australia at 4.2 per cent, ten per cent below the national figure.

Today (February 20) Ms Lawrie confirmed the employment possibilities further by announcing public forums to offer residents a chance to give their recommendations for the new NT Employment Strategy.

She said: "The territory's strong economy is set for rapid growth and it is vital we harness this prosperity as much as possible into employment opportunities for Territorians."

Public forums coming up in the Northern Territory will be held in Darwin today (February 20) at Sky City and in Alice Springs on February 23 at Crown Plaza.

"With the right planning, we can put Territorians in the best position to grab good jobs, and give Territory Businesses the best chance of securing the labour they need to grow and prosper."
