Victoria to upgrade Western Highway

February 16, 2012

While Victoria is one of the smaller states in Australia, it contains one of the most extensive and dense road infrastructures in the country. The highway system caters to major traffic within Victoria, as well as between states.

50 highways connect cities and towns in Victoria and could be considered integral to the movement of goods and the state's economy. Proper transportation routes could also affect residential property investment.

Roads in Victoria vary in quality, with some due for an upgrade.
One such project is set to take place on the major Western Highway duplication between Ballarat and Stawell. Construction is planned for the divided highway section from Burrumbeet to Trawalla.

A $152 contract has been confirmed for the project and will link to current works occurring at Ballarat and Trawalla.

Federal parliamentary secretary for infrastructure and transport and member for Ballarat, Catherine King is looking forward to the development.

She said: "We are working in partnership with the Victorian government to renew and expand our transport infrastructure to support the national economy, and to better connect people living and working in regional Victoria."
