Australia's rain soaked year takes renovations indoors

With the record-breaking amounts of rain we’ve had so far this year, it’s no wonder there’s been an increased demand for interior renovation jobs reports serviceseeking.com.au.

So what rainy day home improvement projects have topped the list this year? Forget decks, patios and new driveways, this summer’s renovations have retreated indoors.


Fresh paint


As long as the humidity isn’t too bad, painting your home’s interior is one renovation project that can be done rain, hail or shine.


A fresh coat of paint can completely lift the mood of a space. Although it’s a task you think you can handle on your own, for a top-notch paint job you should call in the experts.


For your best chance of increasing the value of your property, stick to neutral colours with universal appeal e.g. off-white or ecru.


New floors


While classic timber floors have always been popular, we’ve seen a rise in not only the number of homeowners wanting new timber floors, but also concrete ones. 


Polished concrete floors are becoming the rage with hundreds of concrete flooring jobs listed on the site so far this year.


Environmentally and economically sound, concrete flooring can be organised for an average of $66 per square metre.


Kitchen or bathroom renovations


Homeowners are still on the hunt for new kitchens and bathrooms – complete with shiny fittings and fixtures – with internal laundry facilities.


Wet weather can also encourage the growth of mildew, especially in the grout between tiles.


If you don’t have the money for a full overhaul but are looking to “freshen up” your existing kitchen and/or bathroom, you should be able to get a tiler to replace the grout or cracked tiles.


There’s need for your renovation to come to a halt just because of a bit of rain. As long as you’re not building from the ground up, there’s not a lot that a pair of gumboots and some smart planning can’t handle this year!
