Western Downs residents eligible for flood recovery assistance
Residential property dwellers in Queensland's Western Downs region affected by recent floods are now eligible for financial assistance, the state government announced yesterday (March 6).
Communities minister Tracy Davis said those living in Dalby and the surrounding areas can now access fiscal aid through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements scheme.
"Queensland has been hard hit yet again by Mother Nature, with very heavy rain causing flooding throughout the south-west," the minister remarked.
"Emergent Assistance Grants are now available in the Western Downs Regional Council area to help those in genuine need of assistance with covering the costs of essential items such as food, clothing and accommodation immediately after this flooding event."
Essential Household Contents Grants are also available to low income families who are having difficulty replacing or repairing essential household contents that were lost or damaged in the floods, and that aren't covered by insurance.
Homeowners whose residential properties sustained structural damage may also be eligible to receive a Structural Assistance Grant of up to $14,685 per household, Ms Davis added.
The latest round of grants are in addition to those recently announced for those in the flood ravaged Bundaberg region.
