Thank You Day Award

LJ Hooker is extremely proud to have been awarded the 2006 Leadership in Corporate Giving Award, as part of the fourth annual Thank You Day celebrations.

Thank you day was established Thank You’ Day was created in 2003 by Research Australia to bring the Australian community together to show appreciation for the achievements of this nation’s health and medical researchers, and the supporters who help make their vital work possible.

LJ Hooker was nominated by Cystic Fibrosis Australia due to their eight year partnership in raising funds to help fund a cure. Cystic Fibrosis a genetic condition that affects the lungs and digestive system, impairing the ability to breathe and digest food normally. It is the most common life threatening genetic condition affecting children in Australia today.

The Research Australian Board selected the real estate network – the first ever representative of the real estate industry to be nominated - from a competitive field of nominations for its long-term Australia-wide support for the devastating disease and its creative approach to fundraising.

Managing Director Warren McCarthy accepted on behalf of the LJ Hooker network at a gala function in Sydney attended by 400 guests and dignitaries including The Hon Tony Abbott, Sir Gus Nossal, Professor Ian Frazer and The Hon Neville Wran.

“To stand up on the stage and accept LJ Hooker’s award for Leadership in Corporate Giving was a proud and memorable experience, particularly given the esteemed audience, the outstanding contributions made to Australian medical research by all the awards’ recipients, and the caliber of all nominees for the award LJ Hooker has taken.”

“The national recognition is a tribute to the $1.7 million already raised since 1998 in a bid to raise vital funds to improve treatments and find the means to prevent and cure Cystic Fibrosis.

“I sincerely thank Terry Stewart, Cystic Fibrosis Australia’s CEO, for nominating LJ Hooker. In so doing, he has not only reinforced the CF community’s appreciation of our long-standing commitment but highlighted our efforts to the Australian public,” said McCarthy.

LJ Hooker offices and their communities throughout Australia are involved in helping those affected by CF, which is Australia’s most common recessive genetic condition. A baby is born with CF every four days and there is still no cure for the condition.
