A study by Australia's largest superannuation fund has found that one in four Australian retirees will be renters rather than homeowners by 2040 if current home ownership trends continue.
Data compiled by REST Industry Super has found the trend in declining home ownership is due to a combination of choice and necessity, with some people in younger generations consciously deciding not to purchase a home. Meanwhile, others want to buy a home but are unable because of the reduced affordability of housing, especially in capital cities.
