Many people take for granted the wonderful comfort that comes with having a home to call their own - a place that only they have a key to enter.

The ability to return to residential property after a hard day of work somehow eases the tension and allows you to sit back, relax and enjoy your family's company.

However, some people do not have the means to buy or even rent a house. While it is a great luxury, it is not an inexpensive one.

Western Australia is working towards tackling this problem with an initiative that aims to introduce 1,000 additional affordable rentals to the state.

Under Round 4 of the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS), the project aims to primarily benefit West Australians on low to moderate incomes.

Housing minister Troy Buswell said the effort is part of the overall commitment to bringing affordability housing options to the state's residents.

"The additional funding will bring the total NRAS commitment in WA to 6,000 incentives, meaning we are well on the way to delivering the state government's target of an additional 20,000 affordable housing properties by 2020," he said.
