It's no secret that residential properties with water views command higher prices than inland houses, and now the same appears to be true with homes near green spaces.
According to the annual Husqvarna Global Garden Report, Australians will fork out more cash for a piece of real estate that is close to parks, fields and other green areas.
The survey of 4,500 homeowners in nine countries including Australia, found that 65 per cent of Australians are happy to pay more to be close to some greenery.
As a sign of urbanisation in Australia's capital cities, only 34 per cent of respondents expected there would be growth in green spaces over the next two decades.
Property owners with homes close to parks are likely to welcome the survey's results, which show increasing demand in real estate close to green spaces.
In comparison, just 48 per cent of people would pay more for property close to good shopping precincts, while 39 per cent would fork out extra for a house near restaurants, 38 per cent for cultural venues and 17 per cent for good nightlife.
The most popular reason to visit green spaces was to go for a walk and exercise, as well as enjoy the surroundings, relax, and get fresh air.
Employment prospects in an area is the most influential factor for home buyers when making the final decision, followed by the location of green spaces.
