A multimillion funding project to launch a Western Australia surfing destination as a world-class tourism precinct has been boosted with an additional $1.24 million cash injection.

State regional development minister announced the additional funding today (July 23), for the project which has already received more than $4 million from the local government's Royalties for Regions program.

The project will see vital upgrades and the redevelopment of facilities at popular Surfers Point in Margaret River - one of the country's most famed surfing and tourist destinations.

Those with stakes in commercial property in the Surfers Point area are likely to be interested in the project, which will boost the region's profile among tourists.

"This project will see environmental works and infrastructure upgrades to protect and transform Surfers Point into a world-class, modern tourism precinct," Mr Grylls said.

"Lookouts, picnic areas, new parking and access roads will be developed, and pathways and retaining walls are to be installed."

The multimillion investment in the area would enhance the tourism potential of the annual surfing events held in the town - providing business opportunity for those in commercial retail property in the Margaret River region.
