Residential real estate in Melbourne's western suburbs could be set to benefit from a major infrastructure project underway in the area.

The Victorian government announced on Monday (March 25) that the new Williams Landing railway station will officially open on April 28 - providing more public transport options for thousands of residents in the busy region.

Minister for public transport Terry Mulder said the project is part of the state government's commitment to boost infrastructure in Melbourne's rapidly developing suburbs.

"Wyndham is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. This new railway station will mean more transport options for thousands of Point Cook residents," Mr Mulder commented.

"All Werribee line trains will stop at Williams Landing, which means Point Cook residents will no longer have to travel to Hoppers Crossing, Aircraft or Laverton to catch the train. Locals now have hundreds of train services a week to choose from, closer to home."

Once the station is open, trains will stop every 11 minutes during peak periods and every 20 minutes during off peak times.

Mr Mulder said the surrounding bus network will also be overhauled to help support the region's growing population, with more frequent services and greater coverage to provide connections to the new station.
