Hobart's northern specialists take out LJ Hooker's state honours

By Ryan Ellem on Aug 12 2018

LJ Hooker Glenorchy, industry specialists in Hobart’s northern real estate market, have been named the leading real estate group's top agency for Tasmania and Victoria.

LJ Hooker Glenorchy settled the highest value of sales and managed the most number of property investment, across the group’s interstate agencies to win the award.

In addition to being named Top Office at the awards gala, held at Melbourne's Grand Hyatt, LJ Hooker Glenorchy's joint Principals Stuart Whyment and Penny Higgs were also named the group's Franchise Owners of the Year.

Some of the other major individual accolades on the night included:
  • Most properties sold – Rohullah Paykari (LJ Hooker Hampton Park)
  • Highest value of properties sold – Simon Field (LJ Hooker Berwick)
  • Top Property Investment Manager – Erin Keam (LJ Hooker Pakenham)
  • Rookie of the Year – Declan McAuliffe (LJ Hooker Cranbourne)

Hobart has been the beacon for property growth across Australia’s capital cities in 2018. According to CoreLogic data, the median house price across Greater Hobart rose 10.4 percent over 12 months to May to $425,000

Hobart’s internationally recognised tourism industry has also had an influence on rental returns. There has been a movement of landlords placing their properties in the short-term letting pool to capitalise on tourist visitation, which has in turn heightened demand and competition for the diminished number of permanent rentals. Consequently, apartment landlords in Hobart are now averaging yields of 5.5 percent – the highest of any capital city - on weekly rents around $340.

LJ Hooker Network Chief Graeme Hyde said the Tasmanian market had been in-demand over the past year, requiring innovative approaches, efficient procedures and best practice customer service from real estate specialists.

"The industry has been working at a frantic pace - especially in Hobart – as the state’s comparative affordability and cosmopolitan lifestyle grows in profile," said Mr Hyde. "Tasmania’s tourism, cultural and culinary scene are underpinning its economy and that has flowed through into its property market.

"But a strong real estate environment doesn't automatically translate to business success. LJ Hooker Glenorchy was the sought-after agency for sellers and investors because of its unwavering commitment to provide customers the right guidance in a changing real estate landscape. Their agents and property managers treat customer service as a true partnership."
