Add your own character to your rental

When you rent you have to be very mindful of what you can and can’t do to your property. You’ll need to obtain the landlord’s permission to make changes so you don’t incur any damage or reduce your bond.

But there are still a number of ways you can add your own personal touch to your rental property, with minimal disturbance to the house.

Add photos

Get creative with placement and frames, but make sure you check with your landlord if you can hang them up first! Whether it’s a nail, hook or adhesive strip, you’ll need to get permission just in case your fixtures cause damage to the wall.

Find some funky furniture

If you’re a born entertainer and love having guests around, perhaps buy some stylish and comfortable couches, coffee tables and a large dining table. You could also set up some outdoor furniture for your guests to enjoy, such as a BBQ, sun loungers, breakfast table or lighting.

Set up a garden

You might not get permission to dig up the whole garden and plant it from scratch, but you can still grow plants as you please in pots and tubs. This is especially a good choice for anyone living in apartments or townhouses where outdoor room is scarce. But make sure you water them!
