A total of $2,000 has been donated to charity by LJ Hooker Green Square/Waterloo in its support of cancer research and the Shitbox Rally.

Director Brendon Clark and his team sponsored their client Dion Baker as he entered the aptly named rally, which requires participants to spend no more than $1,000 on a rundown vehicle and making the long-haul drive from Adelaide to Cairns.

The annual event covers 3,800km of terrain over seven days and is all in the name of raising funds for cancer research.

Mr Clark said it was a great privilege to sponsor Mr Baker, whose car was decked out with branding from LJ Hooker, the Cancer Council and co-sponsored by Lonely Planet and Supercraft.

“We were more than happy to sponsor a great cause and back our client Dion as he drives across the country for charity,” Mr Clark said.

“We are strong supporters of cancer research and were honoured when Dion asked us to be a part of something that was so important to him. He entrusted us to not only sell his home but also to get involved in such an important endeavour,” he said.

Mr Baker has so far raised more than $15,000 with a goal of reaching $20,000.
He said he was grateful for LJ Hooker Green Square|Waterloo’s support.

“A number of my close family members have been diagnosed with cancer. I really appreciate the support Brendon and his team have thrown behind myself and the Cancer Council, it’s a great cause that is so close to my heart,” he said.

Since its inception in 2010, Shitbox Rally has raised more than $11.7 million dollars for cancer research.
This year’s rally began in Adelaide on May 27 and ends in Cairns tomorrow, followed by an auction event where all of the cars are sold or donated on June 3.
