When you are considering buying residential property, there are many factors that must go in to your decision. Besides the obvious particulars of budget and size of a home, you must consider what the investment will mean for your future.
If you plan to focus on your career, having a family or both, it would be wise to plan your household location accordingly.
Some of the joys about owning rural property in Australia are the scenery, the animals and of course the quiet. Kids can likely run about and get more exercise, without as many safety risks as city living. The slow, relaxed atmosphere may be a stress reliever that gets you through your daily life.
However, there are also some drawbacks to living far outside the urban centre. You may have to drive a lot further to get to work, or get your kids to school. Also, conveniences like 24-hour restaurants and easy access to grocery stores are not likely to be available.
A small city or town may be a good mixture of both worlds, or it may not be quite enough of one thing. Can it support your work goals and hobbies? Is there enough open space for your pets?
When making a decision, it is best to methodically analyse your priorities and then make a decision based on what is most important to you and your family.
