Award-Winning Real Estate Leader Starts Next Chapter With LJ Hooker

Scott Hughes

A highly-awarded member of LJ Hooker’s Victorian network has made a northern change with the group, linking-up with a high-performing Queensland team as their General Manager and Licensee.

Scott Hughes will transfer his success and experience as the former business owner of LJ Hooker’s Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Grantville and Phillip Island offices as General Manager and Licensee of LJ Hooker’s Coomera and Ormeau offices in the Gold Coast’s north.

LJ Hooke’s Coomera and Ormeau offices have more than 40 staff across sales and property management. In the 12 months to April, the team was highly sought-after by sellers, as the median house price increased 17.7% in Coomera ($678,000), 23.2% in Ormeau ($670,000) and 31.7% in Upper Coomera ($797,500) according to CoreLogic. Landlords capitalised on rental demand, as well, with researcher SQM recording a 0.5% vacancy rate across Coomera’s 4209 postcode at June, while Ormeau’s neighbouring 4208 postcode notched 0.3%.

Mr Hughes has made the move north after driving market share for the LJ Hooker brand throughout the lifestyle markets of Victoria’s Bass Coast.

His accolades within the Victorian Group include:

  • Top Office
  • Most Productive Team (three consecutive years)
  • Best Business Growth
  • Outstanding Customer Service

On a personal level, Mr Hughes was admitted to LJ Hooker’s prestigious Captains club, representing the Group’s Top 15% of salespeople across Australia.

Co-directors of the offices, Shane Colquhoun and Nicole Hintz, welcomed Mr Hughes to the businesses last month.

Mr Colquhoun said: “Scott brings to the role tremendous experience managing teams and enabling productivity across both sales and property management.

“The Gold Coast’s northern corridor will remain an in-demand market over the coming decade with the Brisbane Olympics and second M1 underpinning job creating opportunities through the area.”

Mrs Hintz said Mr Hughes’s appointment comes as the northern Gold Coast corridor capitalises on unprecedented growth.

“I've been working across the Coomera and Ormeau markets for 15 years and over last 12 months we’ve never been busier in the area.

“Even as we enter the new interest rate cycle, I think we’ll see confidence in the markets and I think we’ll see investors come back in stronger numbers as a result of the undersupply of rental stock.”

Mr Hughes said he was excited to make the move and contribute to the future growth of the offices.

“These are both quality offices which is reflected in both the recruitment and growth the businesses have achieved,” said Mr Hughes.

“The sales and property management teams really are attuned to the lifestyle and employment opportunities that are on the doorstep of the areas.

“The northern part of the Gold Coast is still relatively affordable and that’s why we’ve seen so many people from Melbourne and Sydney relocate here in the wake of COVID-19. Blocks of land have been really hard to get.

“In addition to being comparatively affordable, within a 30-40 minute drive the area also has access to the employment hubs of Brisbane, Robina, Yatala and Logan, and the lifestyle activities of the Gold Coast’s beaches, Hinterland rainforests and boating of Moreton Bay.”
