Rugby league royalty recruits former teammates to sell the family home
When former Canberra Raiders captain and three-time NRL top point scorer Jarrod Croker decided it was time to sell the family home, he turned to some old mates to do the job.
The sale of the four-bedroom property in Giralang, 20 minutes from the Canberra CBD, is being handled by fellow Raiders turned real estate agents Troy Thompson and Alan Tongue from LJ Hooker Gungahlin.
“Jarrod is a club icon! There are only three people in our club’s history who have played 300 games for the Raiders, and he is super loved in the community,” Tongue said.
“He was the captain in the 2019 Grand Final and just an all-round great guy and Canberran as well as a Canberra Raider. I think there will be a lot of interest in the property and, really, you are rubbing hands with rugby league royalty.”
Croker purchased the single-level entertainer set on 812 square metres in September 2014. The now fully renovated home, which has panoramic views of the Brindabellas, features multiple living zones, including a home theatre, rumpus and family room. The professionally landscaped property will be sold through an auction campaign.
“There is a good demand for these types of properties. Giralang is becoming more and more central to Canberra; it has great elevated views and is close to everything you need,” Thompson said.
“It is a short drive to the city, and close to the Belconnen shops and Gungahlin town centres. It has been a loving family home, and it is now time to move on to the next chapter, and Jarrod has entrusted us with that.
“A standout feature of this exceptional residence is the expansive multi-purpose retreat, designed to accommodate a range of lifestyle needs, home office, creative studio, a fully equipped business hub, or a rumpus room perfect for entertaining or letting the kids run around, the space offers so much flexibility.”
Croker began playing junior football for the Goulburn Stockmen, winning his first premiership when he was just 16. He made his debut as a centre for the Canberra Raiders in the 2009 NRL season, playing alongside Thompson and Tongue.
Former Canberra Raiders captain Tongue started his new career as a real estate agent earlier this year, working alongside former teammate turned mentor, Thompson, who works as a director of LJ Hooker Gungahlin and LJ Hooker Country Canberra.
Tongue and Thompson are not the only former sports stars working within the LJ Hooker network. Jarrad Anderson, who played for the Cronulla Sharks, is a sales agent for LJ Hooker Coolangatta | Tweed Heads, and David Lonie, a former NFL player with the Green Bay Packers, works for LJ Hooker Southern Gold Coast. Former pro-golfer Darren Wyatt is an associate director at LJ Hooker Double Bay.
