How to Make a Kids Wooden Beaded Shelf With Geneva Vanderzeil

Kids Beaded Shelf

I love easy décor ideas for kids’ rooms and this wooden beaded shelf is a seriously simple one. Even better, it is a quick project to make. Bedrooms need to be tranquil spaces, but that doesn’t mean uninteresting.

This shelf will allow you to add a little colour and fun to a wall and provides youngsters something to look at while drifting off to sleep.

What you need

To make this kids wooden beaded shelf, you will need:

  • Plank of wood
  • Wooden beads x 12
  • Rope
  • Paint
  • Roller
  • Nails

Approximate time: 1 hour
Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆

The project step by step

Step #1

Start by giving your plank of wood a coat of paint. I’ve gone with a soft pink here, but you can use whatever colour you like. Make sure you paint all the edges and underneath. You can also paint your beads if you’d like to add a little more colour to your project.

Step #2

Wrap the end of your rope with some tape so it can thread more easily through your beads.

Step #3

Push both ends of your rope through the bead. If you find the second piece of rope a bit tricky, a skewer can help to guide it through the hole. I’m adding three beads to my rope but you can add as many as you like. Make sure both ends of the rope are even.

Step #4

Slide your pieces of rope and beads onto the ends of the wooden base. A shelf only needs two pieces of rope, but I’m adding a third in the centre giving it a bit more detail.

Step #5

You can use your beads to tighten the rope and make it more stable.

Step #6

Add three nails to the wall and attach your shelf. And it is ready to add a few pieces – maybe a few books or a fluffy toy. This is such an easy project. I love that you can customise it with your favourite colour and add other cute details.
